Well! This is exciting!
Was just going to tweet you about the Melancholia episode I have just listened to but though, i'll use the shiny new forum!
Great episode! We covered it for Homework last week and it amazed me how different Steve's take was from mine. Now I have listened to your and am further amazed! This seems like a film that everyone can take something different from. I mentioned to Steve that I found it a circular film and I took her depression stemming from her foreshadowing of the end of the Earth and she had given up with life as, well what's the point. I loved it as much as Paul did but loved the overall discussion with Ben and Adam surmising that the reason everyone else was, let's face it, arseholes, was that is how Justine had viewed them from inside here head, so almost an internal commentary (which would make it a better film IMO). SO wish we had done it as a main review as it's right up there for me, so bloody good! Touching on Paul's mention of the 7 deadly sins as well, I also linked John's suicide as a dent to his pride, he thought he was right and couldn't take being wrong, as he was used to being the know-it-all rich alpha!
Think that's enough Jibbering,
Marc
Oh man! I still need to listen to your latest episode but that film really stayed with me 😍. Just the whole film being a metaphor for the weight of the world bearing down on you, it's so bloody beautiful that I had to watch it again within the space of a week. It is just such a stunningly shot film as well and Von Trier's best IMO.
Can't wait to listen to your episode now!
Have you seen many other Von Trier films?
